A couple weeks ago I was hanging out with a friend of mine who is struggling with where he is at in life. He was worried about his employment, living situation, and struggling with the idea that life is just not making sense for him. When I reminded him of this text in Colossians where Paul is encouraging the Colossian believers to seek and set their minds on the things above, he let out a Gahhhhhh. He shared that even though he knew that focusing on Christ should be the most important thing in his life and to live knowing his identity I found only in Him, he confessed that he tends to forget this a lot. The Importance Of A Sending Church
When we left for the mission field, we had a lot of people from our church meeting with us and praying for us. In fact, in one of the services we were brought before the congregation and prayed for. This gave us confirmation and comfort even though we knew we were heading toward unfamiliar territory and had a lot of work to do. When we landed in Nicaragua everything changed. I have a bean …
It’s been a while since I’ve shared a coffee that I liked. A couple days ago I popped into I Have A Bean‘s roastery to see what they were about. The second I opened the door, the sweet smell of roasting coffee hit me, and it wasn’t the horrid smell of badly burnt beans. I purchased the Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Adado Shara Natural since I prefer fruity notes. Give them a try! Continue reading “Friday Links 8.24.2017”
In the book of Ecclesiastes, the author presents a raw and honest description of the realities of life in a fallen world under the sun. Life is short and the fact that every day we are getting closer to our death should affect how we live. Ecclesiastes exposes the folly of man as he strives to serve himself by pursuing earthly goals and pleasures. Continue reading “Trust Jesus, who saves us from life’s vanity.”
John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress was first published back in 1678 and is now second only to the Bible in the number of copies it has sold worldwide. It has even been called “the second best book in all the world.” Continue reading “Book Review: Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan”

“Make careful choice of the books which you read:
let the holy Scriptures ever have the preeminence.
Let Scripture be first and most in your hearts and
hands and other books be used as subservient to it. Continue reading “Richard Baxter On Reading”
In March of 2013, we had our first official conversation that we were both ready to start a family! I remember that day so clearly as tears flooded both of our eyes as we talked about feeling ready to expand our family. We shared our hearts, our expectations, embraced and prayed that God would bless and grow our family. We decided that day that in a couple months we would begin trying. Months of trying turned into a year and no baby yet. A year turned into 2 and 2 years turned into 3 and we are now coming on 4 years of trying but no baby. The excitement turned into heartache and months and years of difficulty. There were times where we thought we could be pregnant and would buy pregnancy tests only to be left disappointed by a negative result. The road of infertility is not an easy road but it has taught us to cling more closely to Jesus. It has taught us that even though “The heart of man plans his way, …the Lord establishes his steps.” Psalm 16:9 Continue reading “We’re Adopting!”
What is the CSB?
The CSB, which stands for Christian Standard Bible, is a decent translation. I am going to start using it as another reference while sermon prepping, but it will not be my primary translation. Continue reading “Premium Bibles: CSB”
