Hebrews is one of my favorite books. In this book, we see that Jesus is greater than any angel, priest, or old covenant institution. We see that Jesus is our great High Priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses while also being the perfect sacrifice for our sin. We see that God is our loving Father that uses the affliction in our lives to discipline us to prove that we are His children. Continue reading “John Phillip’s Exploring Hebrews”
What is the purpose of grace?
Primarily, to restore our relationship with God. When God lays the foundation of this restored relationship, by forgiving our sins as we trust his Son, he does so in order that henceforth we and he may live in fellowship. Continue reading “J.I. Packer On The Purpose of Grace”

In Judges 2:10 we read a very sad and shocking passage .. “And there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel.” After all that had happened in the generation before through Joshua’s leadership, how did they get so far off? Those that lived during the time of Joshua did not share what God had promised and done for Israel. This led to a new generation who did not know God.
In our day, there has been a trend in some churches to stray away from the old ways and start developing new, relevant ways to experience God. Continue reading “Creeds, Confessions, and Catechisms”

The Pastor’s Justification by Jared Wilson is easily one of my favorite books on pastoral ministry. I know I am a little late to the game in reading it since it came out in 2013 but better late than never. This is not a book on the growth of specific leadership skills or how to increase your influence. It’s about understanding that a pastor is just a man justified by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone to God’s glory alone, who happens to be a pastor.
