Book Review: The Pastor’s Justification by Jared Wilson

The Pastor’s Justification by Jared Wilson is easily one of my favorite books on pastoral ministry. I know I am a little late to the game in reading it since it came out in 2013 but better late than never.  This is not a book on the growth of specific leadership skills or how to increase your influence. It’s about understanding that a pastor is just a man justified by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone to God’s glory alone, who happens to be a pastor. The Power Of God In The Midst Of Suffering


“So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.” – 1 Timothy 1:8-10

Timothy was ministering in Ephesus when he received this letter from the Apostle Paul. Paul was imprisoned in Rome for preaching the gospel and at this point he knew he was near death. The intentions of this letter was to ask Timothy to visit him in Rome as well as to encourage Timothy to be a faithful minister of the Gospel amidst false teaching and persecution.
